"Margie Maru" is the subject I'll do. I've been busy removing parts from their castings and I have to say, I"m NOT a big fan of the need to cut them off the little bitty, delicate, and numerous molding "strips". Awfully tedious and requiring very careful "surgery" to keep from breaking something. Anyways, I picked up the recent Tamiya Leopard 2A6 in Ukraine markings. I also got an Asuka M4A3 (76) Late. Both of those were only $30 CAD each which is like, $20 US or so. Finally, I got an Airfix pint glass. They cleverly packaged it with one of their big Spitfire kits. The box was slightly smushed but the contents were fine so it came with a huge discount. Sadly there was no coaster included so I'm going to have water marks on my bench now. CarlMon, 17 Aug 2026 20:12:45 +0000Hi all, Although the kit supplied propellers are of good qualify, I chose to use a replacement. Proper Plane’ wood laminated (WP005) propeller. Tamiya clear orange was lightly airbrushed over the propeller to give a varnished effect. The blades were airbrushed with Tamiya Royal Light Grey (XF80). Final clear coat of semi-matte was airbrushed to seal and protect the paint and decals. Tamiya Weathering Master Set A (Mud) was lightly sponged across the blades to give a worn effect, MikeMon, 17 Aug 2026 13:37:40 +0000This is my new 1/16 build. I picked up this 1990 Tamiya Leopard 1 from a good friend. Poor old thing is a bit battered. I have had it sitting on the the shelf of hopelessness for a while now. A couple of days ago I decided to investigated to find out what was missing, damaged, or need repair/replacement. It’s going to be another Danish Leopard 1A5DK, of the Black Reconnaissance Unit. Having done one I think this should be an easier build, despite the it being in a worse condition than the one that became the Kelvinator. Box is in good condition, mostly. The tank itself is mostly all complete. Plenty of spare track parts. Lots of little bits. These will not be used. As the Danish used tool boxes on the sides. However. There will be an opportunity for some scratch building for the tools on the rear deck. There is a lot of good stuff in a different box, however I forgot to photograph it. It still has the original clutch, which is worn on the lobes. For those who may not know. The original Tamiya Leopard 1 was only two channel. This was speed, and a clutch mechanism for steering. Unfortunately the lobes on the clutches wore out, so the model would not steer. Gearbox is damaged, with a missing gear wheel. Neither the gearbox, or clutch mechanism will be used, both will be replaced with duel gearboxes, with 390 motors. Whoever had it before my mate painted the interior with emulsion, in a fetching shade of puke. The hull will be stripped, stuck through the dishwasher, and dunked in paint remover. Started to repair the rear panel, at the Scottish Section of the Make Modelling Mediocre Group. This is a joke between some friends. Finally. All of the running gear, is in good condition, and complete, apart from a shock absorber that is damaged, and one that is missing. Plenty of work to do. I will be using a Clark Board in it, with a homemade elevation system, and recoil. Road wheels will have bushings fitted, instead of the polly caps, and the return rollers, will be modified, again to remove the polly caps. After a delay caused by some deep tidying and reorganization in the garage/model workshop, I was finally able to get back to the Hempden and begin the long-awaited painting stage! With the entire surface cleaned and carefully checked for any flaws, I applied the primer. In this case, I used a mixture of Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black with a few drops of Mr. Surfacer Grey. This primer will also serve as the model's base colour. This primer provides a smooth, uniform satin finish across the entire surface and makes for an excellent starting point for the paintwork ahead. It was necessary to separate the upper and lower colours and, for that, I opted for the classic Blu Tack sausage method. It was mainly a matter of playing it safe, as I know that if I try to paint it freehand, it will almost certainly go wrong! 😀 Likewise, I applied masking tape to define the camouflage demarcation between the upper and lower surfaces of the wings. I began the upper-surface painting with the brown shade, choosing the classic Tamiya XF-52, thinned with Mr. Levelling Thinner. This allows for excellent control and the application of very thin coats. I deliberately avoided achieving a completely uniform finish, as I intend to return later with tonal variations for weathering effects. I also started with the green camouflage patches, using Tamiya XF-58 Dark Green and applied by airbrush on previously set bluetack sausages for camouflage pattern. I needed to stop and let the paint dry, as i need to rewatch and check if it's as i imagined. This time, No. 52 " Rei Hazumi" (sailor suit). I know, too cutesy, and not to everyone's liking, I started collecting these things a while back. They are fun, and often challenging, to build. I've built four and they came out nice. They also introduced me to the Mr Color line of lacquer paints.....good stuff. This boxing doesn't disappoint in terms of "cutesiness".
