I'm calling her done. I did have one more part to install, the foot step on the left side. It's been added since the photos, I only noticed after looking at the photos. That last shot is what I pictured years ago when I built the Albatros Dv. Reading back then at the active dates and logs of MVR I saw no reason these and others of the Barons red planes existed at the same time and on the same field. Granted probably not park so closely like this but it's my build so yeah.

Really enjoyed the Ming Dr1 and will likely do it again. Only issues I had were self inflicted. I didn't test fit the upper wing enough before I committed to glue.

Looking at the pictures the gun mount needs a pin wash. overall its turned out OK if you dont look to close which cameras always do 😉

after almost a year building this kit and conversion off and on, it's finished.

The MDC conversion was a real ill-fitting let down, so I 3D designed a whole new hood and vac formed the glass.

The exposed engine is from FPW models.

The figures are a mix of 3d printed and Ai generated soldiers and resin figures I took from the spares box.

Seatbelts are HGW and I used 1manarmy masks (of course).

The cockpit is from Aires and so is the wheel bay.

The science device behind the seat in the cockpit is 3d designed by myself and printed. If anyone needs it, just PM me.

The base I 3d printed on a PLA printer.

Grass and mud are from AK Interactive.

Wheels are Eduard.

Having built my share of Trumpeter kits, I found this one pretty good. I started out by getting rid of the rivets on fuselage and wings. I used AOA decals, and I followed their instructions to also remove rivets and fake panels that Trumpeter decided to add. During my research, I found that during the first part of the air war, names were removed from the aircraft. The mission strikes markings were placed behind the cockpit.

Aftermarket used:

• Eduard: Exterior and interior sets

• ResKit: Mk.83 bombs and wheels

• True Details: Ejection seats

• Wula Models: Wing fold set, canopy actuator, main gear doors

• Master Models: Pitot tube, AoA probe, and refueling probe

• AMS Resin: FOD covers

I added Braces for the flak curtains in the canopy and some additional wiring in the pit. Most of the scratch-building I did was on the engines  and engine bay. The landing gear is from the kit, and I added brake and hydraulic lines. The Wula parts are very nice and fit pretty well. The wing fold took some time to fit both the inner and outer wings. I found the AoA decals to be very thin, and quickly learned that I had to   be very careful with them.

I bumped the right outside Mk.83 while taking the pics, it is fixed now. I used Model Master paints for this build. Sometime down the road, I have every intention of building an VA-75 A-6A.

An Update:

Last Thursday (7/23/26), after finishing the indoor photo session, I was placing the model in my Navy display case when the upper shelf collapsed onto it. In addition to the A-6E, I also lost my TBF-1 and five other 1/48 scale builds. Eight months down the drain…with that said, it’s just plastic.

 Information about this specific aircraft was from this book.

 "Taken on charge at No. 39 MU on 15.02.44, MB935 was issued to No. 131 Sqn 11 days later. With high altitude paint scheme, it was flown by various pilots but it was Irish-born Australian Douglas Phillips who was flying the aircraft when it was lost during a scramble on 23. 04.44."

This model was converted from an operational aircraft of No:47 Squadron.

The conversion was to the cockpits and their controls.

I spent quite a bit of time working the bow stations(no railing one side .020" brass rod and latex line the other side is .020" rod and stretched sprue liked it better then stretched sprue behind the anchors.

Bad:
- The manual is poor for wiring, often not showing, where the wires leading
- Some larger resin parts, like cockpit tub didn´t fit the side fairings, which lead to problems
- Many bent metal parts and not only the flimsy ones
- The real heavy rear part with engine, … is only fixed by a tiny screw. Careful handling of the finished kit is necessary.
- White decals where marred on the surface. No prob under clear coat, but on the windscreen
- No decals for the small rear wing version included, despite supplying all the parts for it.
- No parts list supplied, which is really needed. You can print it from the MFH page in bad quality, which keeps you guessing at times.

Not kit related:
Number Five BT52 white paint is way off and unusable, I used MP4 white instead, which matched the decals.

Its always nice to build authentic but its also great fun to play around even if it upsets the Purists . more pictures of above or any questions feel free.

A few years ago i got stuck in a rut with 1/48 aircraft with Aires resin detail kits but now i have learned to try anything (once ) 🤣

and Takom 1:16 M. Wittman (came as a bonus with one of their "Tigerbox") with Tamiya 1:35 sparrow - which looks more appropriate in 1:16 scale - from their German tank crew at rest kit.
