I figure it'll be a "looker" when finished. I haven't decided on what I'll do for the LG bays. Looks to be a bit fiddly but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. 🤪

I've waited a long time for a GOOD 1/32 P-51B/C kit. Now Eduard has issued a really good one. "Margie Maru" is the subject I'll do. I've been busy removing parts from their castings and I have to say, I"m NOT a big fan of the need to cut them off the little bitty, delicate, and numerous molding "strips". Awfully tedious and requiring very careful "surgery" to keep from breaking something. For me it's a big PITA 🤪 to have to do BUT a small price to pay for the high quality of the parts.

I am calling this one done. It was NOT a easy conversion and had some significant cuss-factors. I tried out several different approaches for the rear deck until I finally settled on using some rear deck area, after some modifications, trimming, puttying, and sanding, from a old Revell kit. The sliding canopy is a vacuform piece for a Tempest while the windscreen is from a Hasegawa P-47 with "adjustments". Painted with MCW Gloss Dark Sea Blue. Decals are Hasegawa. I hope you like the results of my efforts. 😀

I just received this beauty. Likely my next build.

Painting completed. Decals including wing walks etc are next and then I plan to overspray with satin finish.

Made some good progress lately. Priming and painting soon.

Here's a tip for you Paul. Usually the wing spars are difficult to slide all the way into the outer wings. My solution has been to trim them down some with my Dremel. Makes it a lot easier. You can also put a touch of petroleum jelly on the ends if they are still a bit balky. 😀

I too wish Tamiya would release more 1/32 WW II a/c but, unfortunately, it looks like they have gotten away from that. In my opinion, such as it is, they are "missing the boat". I'd love to see them continue the Corsair line with a F4U-4 to start. The Trumpeter version unfortunately just doesn't "cut the mustard". I'm certain you will enjoy the -1D build when you get to it. 😀

As I'm sure you already know, I've built a bunch of them from the -1 to the -1D and enjoyed each and every one. You too will enjoy building that -1D! Really nice model(s). 😃

Well along on the fuselage. Wings are next. Still waiting for a canopy/windscreen. 😀

Coming right along. Still a few little "kinks" to address though. I've been waiting since July 24 for a 1/32 Squadron Vacuform Tempest canopy to be delivered hoping it will be satisfactory for this build. I checked tracking earlier today and it shows on the UPS site to STILL be in "the warehouse" with a estimated delivery in another 2 weeks!!!! I ordered it from someone in Canada and expected it might take a little more time than usual but this is ridiculous! Anyone here got one to spare?

Rear deck done, finally. I applied some GSB "just to see etc".

I decided to try using a section of fuselage from a Revell kit instead since it has a better shape. Still LOTS of "adjusting" to do.....😃

Now for the REAL "fun" part!!!

Now that the "innards" are done I can put the fuselage halves together. Then it will be time to work on getting the rear fuselage deck attached and worked into shape. Fingers crossed.

I've been working on making a suitable rear deck for this. To start, I sandwiched several pieces of strip plastic sheet then trimmed it to the basic shape I needed. Then I applied over the basic shape plenty of white putty. After all that was completed (SEVERAL DAYS AND LOTS OF CUSSING) I sanded and trimmed until I got a usable rear deck. It's still in need of some additional "adjustments" but I figure y'all get the idea. After I get the Tamiya fuselage interior, etc done I'll join the halves and then set the rear deck piece in place. THEN it will be time for lots more "adjusting", puttying and sanding until it looks "right". After that I'll tackle the windscreen. None of this has been easy and, at times, I wished I hadn't started it! 🙃
