I'd be interested to see if any of these IP parts are branded Smiths. I work for the group that started out making watches and spedos for all sorts of things including aircraft, cars and motorbikes. The scene in the Dambusters when they show watch faces. Smiths watches. 😁

Now the Triplane is finished I'm back to the SE5a Dryfitting all the panels, engine and radiator feels better. I think I screwed something on the cockpit bulkhead. I see other folks builds and it looks like it's standing erect. Mine has a bit of a lean to the rear that required me to thin down the trailing edge of the cockpit cowl, panel. It was making that end of the part stand too tall. Feels better now. letting paints dry and will close up and mask the inspection panels. I'm going to paint and weather to almost the end game on this one. Just seems easier before final assembly. I'm wondering how long i'm going to be on this WnW WW1 kick.

Mike do you find using the mono-filament gives extra stability to the model? My problem with using the rigid stuff over elastic material is when you get one line tightened another may go slack. With my club hands I usually ended up burning a line trying to heat it up to make it tight again.

Thanks Martin, that base was built for an old Eindecker I had a while back. It didn't survive the move to our new house but I got one in the stash that's been talking to me lately. Kevin I think I'm going to use Acrylic based "oils" next time, I did one of the props in acrylics and they dry MUCH quicker.

I'm calling her done. I did have one more part to install, the foot step on the left side. It's been added since the photos, I only noticed after looking at the photos. That last shot is what I pictured years ago when I built the Albatros Dv. Reading back then at the active dates and logs of MVR I saw no reason these and others of the Barons red planes existed at the same time and on the same field. Granted probably not park so closely like this but it's my build so yeah. Really enjoyed the Ming Dr1 and will likely do it again. Only issues I had were self inflicted. I didn't test fit the upper wing enough before I committed to glue.

Sorry I haven't updated here lately. Crazy busy. Here's some progress shots. Got the top wing fitted Got her up on the wheels then a pin wash over the ribs. Then a flat coat. I'm leaving the cowl shinny. I really don't know what happened with that right aileron Next up a splash of mud and spatter of oil and I think I'm callin' it.

I've committed the wings, upper wings fit was not as snug as I'd like, don't know if the ammo can may be a bit high or what, I trimmed down some structure between the wings to see if that helps, it didn't. I'll wick some CA up there to close the joint. Bottom wing went on no problems and if there were an alignment issue I don't think the outer wing struts would fit as well as they do so I'm moving forward. Don't look too close at the alignment of the guns, I had to remove some kit supplied alignment slots to fit the Gaspatch guns, convergence may be closer than what the Baron liked. Holding off installing landing gear and rudder, don't want them getting knocked off just yet.

Thanks Doc, from what I've read there was only DR.1 that was factory finish in red, that was Dr1 425/17. The rest were field painted. I did the Albatros D.V years ago.

Getting closer to assembly now. Got a good clear coat on and the decals I know would cause me issues after construction. Few more decals and smoking over the minimal rigging. Should start looking like a DR1 aircraft.

Red ontop coming right up. The oils cured well and I gave it a clear gloss of AlcladII Clear base, that stuff is rock solid. I'll clear this once it's cured out and start with the stickers. I turned attetion back to the DR because I'm smoking over my PC10 option.

Got the engine built up, it begs for a lot more detail but i'm not sure I'm in the mood for that. The fit is a bit fussy, not sure what's going on but maybe I need to get the other panels in play to make sure things are squared up.

You Wingnut Wing fans you know the SE5 was in the first batch of kits they release way back when. I've had this in my stash for a really long time and I have been on a WW1 kick for a bit now. While the oils cure out on the Dr1 my attention has been diverted to an Allied aircraft for a change. Base coats and some test fitting. Ends up here. That's the HGW seatbelts, frankly it looks oversized but they stay. I'm using the fuselage that has the crinkled fabric, I tried to replcate some of the fabric fold inside the cockpit, maybe once I get it buttoned up it won't look so lame.
