May 25May 25 I've been looking at the instructions and pictures of Miniart's ( aka "manypart") Lanz Bulldog in 1/24 and I need aBrass paint that's not too brassy.......more like tarnished or unpolished brass. It also needs to brush well using a paintbrush and airbrush well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is to be used on various fittings and theprominent radiators on each side.Thanks;Paul. Edited May 25May 25 by Belugawhaleman
May 26May 26 Instructions are not always right. To answer your question directly, Model Master metallic lacquers are my favourite. But. I would never leave metallic colour in its slap-on form, Wet-wash it with dark brown or dry-brush it with graphite powder.
May 26May 26 I have no favorite metal paint for brush painting and airbrush, but use different products for all kind of effects. If you don´t want high shine brass, there is always bronze, for example AK´s Extreme Metal Bronze, which sprays very well. Another option would be AK´s True Metal bronze wax. It can be brushed or rubbed on and gives a nice effect too. I heard, you can thin and spray the wax as well, but I never tried that.Like Martin said, oil or other washes and possibly pigment drybrushing enhance the appearance, depending on the state of wear/patina you´re after.Cheers Rob
May 26May 26 Author Thanks😀 Here's what one of the radiator sections looks like on the Bulldog. Edited May 26May 26 by Belugawhaleman
May 27May 27 Just a note to say your base coat is probably what determines 90% of your top coat finish...... Gloss/Mat. Black/White makes a big difference. Also remember that in days gone by header tanks were usually brass and the core was usually copper as it has a much better cooling efficiency but painted to look one colour. I would spray it with brass color or us the wax, if the texture allows, followed by a matted oil wash and some metal pigments for highlighting.Cheers Rob
