June 26Jun 26 I've been perusing and doing a little cleanup of the Lone Star Models conversion parts for a 1/32 F2G. They are meant to be for the old Revell kit but I'm hoping to be able to use a Tamiya 1A or 1D. As you can see there are some significant "problems" with the LSM parts which, I hope, can be addressed by using Tamiya parts (such as the main cowling). I fixed up a "replacement" using some leftover Tamiya clear parts which I think will work well. PS: I wound up having to use the supplied cowling, cylinders, tail wheel assembly, main wheels and other less than "crisp and accurate" parts. Edited July 5Jul 5 by JohnB593

June 27Jun 27 At what point is it easier to scratch and convert original over trying to fit these "upgrades" looking forward to see what can be done.☹️

I plan to test fit using the Revell kit but I think using a Tamiya -1A or -1D as the final "subject" should result in a better model. 🤞
June 27Jun 27 Nice project, John! It looks like it will require a bit of patience, but it should be very cool when completed.

Lots of patience will certainly be needed (not my strong suite!) but I hope to take it slow, etc then I might be able to get it all to come together, etc.
June 27Jun 27 Author Fuselage halves and tail unit halves mostly cleaned up. More sanding/trimming needed.I've been thinking: I might just do some serious cleanup on the Revell parts and just go with that. I'd hate to screw up a Tamiya kit trying to make this work. Edited June 27Jun 27 by JohnB593
June 27Jun 27 I haven't seen one built before John. It's looks like it's going to need a lot of patience.I do remember putting my name down for this conversion when it was first announced but never got notified about it until it was old out. Then I was able to get the XS Models conversion. It's designed for the Trumpeter kit but I'm planning to use a Tamiya kit as well. It's a very different parts breakdown compared to the Lone Star. I too had put my name down when it was announced but never got one (until now). I think it was his last one.
June 28Jun 28 Author Tail assembly about ready for the horizontal stabilizers. I'll paint the interior with YZC and the tail gear with GDSB first. 😀 Edited June 28Jun 28 by JohnB593
June 30Jun 30 Lone Star really made that fuselage complicated. The XS one looks a bit easier. Famous last words of course.

June 30Jun 30 Author Some progress on small parts and the prop. I substituted Tamiya blades for the resin ones. The prop dome is from the conversion kit. I sanded off the raised rivet detail on the Revell horizontal stabilizers and the main wing stubs then over sprayed with gray primer. After a lot of sanding and trimming I THINK I have the fuselage halves cleaned up enough to join them. We will see soon. 😁
July 1Jul 1 Author Test fitting the fuselage with cockpit assembly, tail hook, etc taped in place. Looks like I have my work cut out for me.......☹️
July 2Jul 2 Author I attached strips of scrap plastic in the gaps. I'll trim the excess off and fill the remaining gaps with white putty. Then I'll sand it out and re-putty where needed, etc.
