July 8Jul 8 I got the Meng/WnW DR1 underway doing one of the Barron's mounts, aircraft 127/17. You Wingnut Wing fans will remember that the Albatros DV MvR version from WnW had some bonus decals so that's the aircraft I'm doing. From what I've read this aircraft was not painted overall red until after the war when it was put on display in Berlin. Sadly it was destroyed during the bombings during WW2. I've read that the red paint scheme was a progression so that's what I'm going to try so to get there I have to start with a fresh streaked scheme from the factory. This is Olive Green and Red Ochre oils streaked over a Clear Dope Linen base. Letting the oils cure before seal coat and some red paint.
July 26Jul 26 Author Red ontop coming right up.The oils cured well and I gave it a clear gloss of AlcladII Clear base, that stuff is rock solid. I'll clear this once it's cured out and start with the stickers. I turned attetion back to the DR because I'm smoking over my PC10 option.
August 2Aug 2 Author Getting closer to assembly now. Got a good clear coat on and the decals I know would cause me issues after construction. Few more decals and smoking over the minimal rigging.Should start looking like a DR1 aircraft.
August 2Aug 2 Author Thanks Doc, from what I've read there was only DR.1 that was factory finish in red, that was Dr1 425/17. The rest were field painted. I did the Albatros D.V years ago.
August 4Aug 4 Author I've committed the wings, upper wings fit was not as snug as I'd like, don't know if the ammo can may be a bit high or what, I trimmed down some structure between the wings to see if that helps, it didn't. I'll wick some CA up there to close the joint. Bottom wing went on no problems and if there were an alignment issue I don't think the outer wing struts would fit as well as they do so I'm moving forward. Don't look too close at the alignment of the guns, I had to remove some kit supplied alignment slots to fit the Gaspatch guns, convergence may be closer than what the Baron liked. Holding off installing landing gear and rudder, don't want them getting knocked off just yet.
