September 6Sep 6 Author I ordered a couple of Decalcas 3D printed 1/12 chains today. this is another individual link system. they are slightly smaller than the MFH chain i built which is presenting problems as i cant get the assembled chain inside the chain guard . Unfortunately i have had to order from Spain as they dont seem to have a UK distributorhttps://www.spotmodel.com/product_info.php?products_id=59748&language=en
September 6Sep 6 There is also the 1/12 metal (etch) chain set for the Tamiya RC166. I haven´t used it for my build, because, I had a printed substitute and can´t tell about size and construction therefore.Cheers Rob Edited September 6Sep 6 by DocRob

September 8Sep 8 Author I have been caught many times buying this discontinued stuff only to find it re issued a while later at a fraction of the price. A case in question is a while ago i bought the sister to this AJS build in the Matchless G50 from Protar only to find out Italeri are just about to re issue it :-) I also didn't realise the AJS and Matchless are the same kit, even the instructions are the same.AJS and Matchless were built by Associated Motor Cycles (AMC) and the 7R and G50 were pulled off the same production line and just badged up as one or the other ....
September 9Sep 9 Looking good, takes me back a bit to when I first started going to bike racing meetings, lots of Norton, AJS, Matchless racers around at the time.I had a Matchless G9 500 twin with an AJS 350 single replacing the original engine, then later a 250cc AJS Sapphire sport.CheersDennis
September 9Sep 9 Author My only foray into British was a BSA Super rocket :-), after that i went Italian.just sorting some fuel line. Of course back in the day they would'nt have used clear silicon tubing 😁 but i wanted to differentiate the cables and wires from the fuel pipe Edited September 10Sep 10 by Paddy
September 12Sep 12 Author So the first problem . I suppose if you are going to have one it might as well be quite big 🤣This the kit exhaust down pipeit should run just above those 2 screws in the frame and pin into that small hole in the side of the gearbox cover so its about 10mm out
September 12Sep 12 Author Decided to try and make a new one. See how this one sits just under the gearbox instead of across the front of it.
September 12Sep 12 That is way off and should have been noticed ny Protar. Is yours a multi part affair or one bended rod?Cheers Rob
September 12Sep 12 Author Its one piece , i have cut it where it will join the silencer now and sprayed it chrome I was sort expected this as the Manx Norton i built, although it was italeri it was Protar originally, a while back was the same and as this is the same kit as the Matchless i guess that will be the same as well.
September 13Sep 13 Author Congratulations to rob and his BT52B that has made the MFH web site. Quite an honor, well done .https://www.modelfactoryhiro.com/hpgen/HPB/entries/707.html

All my MFH builds are in the gallery and yes, I feel honoured among so many gifted modelers.BTW: I´m pondering, if I really want to buy the still available Abarth 1000SP LM. I like the little beast, specially the rear with all the ducts and fairings. I reckon you built one Paddy, what are your thoughts about the kit. Are there serious downsides, I mean more than the MFH usual obstacles?Cheers Rob
September 13Sep 13 Author Its a nice kit but has an issue with the rear engine cover hinge. its just out by about 10mmthe bar at the bottom at the back is the mount for the hinges on the rear cover above. A/ its not strong enough to pivot the weight of the cover being white metal and B/ its its about 10mm to low so you need to remake the rear chassis hinge point, i obviously used brass and soldered it for strength. I have sleeved it on to the original with a couple of alloy sleeves and given it a10mm lift but you need to fit the rear cover and work it out yourself. Other than that i found it a good fun kit and resin panels fit exceptionally well, it was my first MFH car although i have now built 2 as i did the matra simca on here a while back which wasn't so successful. As you know the MFH stuff is a whole different ball game so i am learning from scratch about drilling, reading miles ahead on the instructions, test fit and test fit again a dozen times. Never allow anything to be even a couple of degrees out thinking you will sort it later as the smallest error just multiplies a 100x as you go further 😉Give it a go, its one of the cheaper options but is none the less a very nice model
September 13Sep 13 Thank you Paddy, you built a little beauty there. The 1000SP looks fantastic. The rear hinge issue is weird, 10mm off, wow, but your solution looks well thought and sturdy. I hear you about drilling and planning ahead, I´ve been there also, it´s part of the game with MFH kits. They have their shortcomings, but I´m addicted since I started my Cobra Coupe as my first MFH car. It was way over my head, but somehow I got it together. It had a similar issue with the bonnet, which I wasn´t able to close over the air intakes. Took me a lot of surgery, swearing and test fitting, until I got it halfway solved. I then built two F1 classics, which were a bit easier to assemble. The tiny Abarth is tempting me since it came out, I like the look and if I build it, I may opt for pure red bodywork without sponsor decals, which shows the beauty of the body without distraction.Cheers Rob
September 15Sep 15 Author Anyway..................been there done that (or this)This is pretty much OTB apart from the spokes and exhaust so cant grumble as its a 55 year old model. as always if i had my time again i could go to town on this but instead i am going to start another Protar straight away and see what i can do to enhance it for fun.
