I have been widely absent for a while for different reasons, one very obviously it is summertime, with lots of swimming, mountainbiking and doing things around the house, etc. Another reason is redecorating my workspace, selling unused woodworking machines and add desparately needed display shelves to my cave. Not so obvious, but to my own mystification, the forum situation with LSM and MSW crashed with all data and seemingly many members lost and to add to that the forming of Dry Dock Modeler

Hi all, As the Sopwith 2F.1 Camel is coming to a close, I've started researching the next build. The Wingnut Wings RAF RE.8 kit. I'm planning it to be a RE.8 of the 6me Escadrille, Belgian Aviation Militaire, at Houthem-lez-Furnes airfield in 1917. I have the Pheon decal set for the RE.8 which has the Belgian markings. The Pheon colour profiles have the aircrafts colour as very dark, almost black. However, other profiles of the same squadron show the colour to be closer to the RFC PC 10 or 12 f

AJS 7R, 350cc single cylinder race bike from around 1959. So here we have a Protar model motorcycle. Founded in 1963 in Bologna by Tarquinio Provini, a famous motorcycle Grand Prix racer , they produced a wide range of motorcycle kits of the era and later branching into GP cars. Sold out to Italeri around 1970 the history gets sketchy. The original kits were multimedia featuring white metal and plastic parts. So… this is a build just so I can finish the “story” of the USN Picket Boat I did several years ago. The Albemarle was the ship sunk by the Picket Boat in October of 1864 This is the only kit I could ever find of her - 1/192 Resin/Wood/Photoetch from Flagship Models the kit isn’t huge - two-piece resin hull, a half-sheet of photoetch and a small bag of wood and resin bits I’m building this with the help of my girlfriend’s 11-year-old son. Apologies for the late arrival Doc, i usually turn up eventually 😆 This is looking really nice, its not a scale i do these days as age and fat thumbs are against it but its great to see others builds. Your paint problems remind me of the first time i tried to use Mig washes on Italeri plastic and it turned it brittle and it cracked over night. Some of these plastics they use are not up to the range of modern paints and thinners. These spring hangers were fine for about 12 hours then they just shattered.

Thank you Carl, you are right, the Marker´s colors should match their other colors. In all, they are handy for purposes like shown, for small touch ups and specially for window seals from cars, where it is so easy to ruin everything with a brush.

Nice work on the interior there Rob. The red seats certainly stand out.
The paint markers are certainly handy. I wish they made more colours available and in th case of the AK ones, that they matched their bottled paint.

Porsche 917K - Fujimi - 1/24

Next steps were building ap the chassis and interior. The front suspension was relatively trouble free to assemble and it is possible to steer the front wheels. The interior was finished adding dashboard and steering column and the seats. I used some spare seat belt decals, as there were no belts provided, etch buckles yes, but no belt material.
The engine underside, gearbox and rear suspension were next. Getting the exhausts aligned properly and the tubing for the suspension fitted properly was a bit tedious, more a three hand job.

Of course, I checked, if the body fits over the suspensin and even more delicate over the dashboard fairing, while the glue was still not completely cured and a little wiggling was still possible. Luckily everything fitted well. The kit is a bit crude, specially the black sprues with some flash present, but the overall fit is very good until now.

I use markers more and more recently. Here is an example from the underside of the engine. It was sprayed flat aluminum and then, I used a rubber black AK marker for the snaking exhausts. It was a two minute job and would have been much harder with a brush.
