I have been widely absent for a while for different reasons, one very obviously it is summertime, with lots of swimming, mountainbiking and doing things around the house, etc. Another reason is redecorating my workspace, selling unused woodworking machines and add desparately needed display shelves to my cave. Not so obvious, but to my own mystification, the forum situation with LSM and MSW crashed with all data and seemingly many members lost and to add to that the forming of Dry Dock Modeler

I have time now, but any physical start won't be 'til the P-40 is finished sometime after NATS. I pulled the kit from the stash several months ago, with plans to start it after the P-40. I purchased the conversion kit from B&B Resin back when Tim first released it. I've also picked up various AM sets but I'm not sure which ones I'll use. I had also picked up this resin base and I'm thinking about using it in the project. In spare moments, I've started painting the base.

This is my attempt at the Trumpeter A-6E kit. The A-6 is one of my favorite Navy jets of all time. VA-75 was assigned to the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 during Desert Storm in 1991. Having built my share of Trumpeter kits, I found this one pretty good. I started out by getting rid of the rivets on fuselage and wings. This is an Airco DH9 from WnW. An odd choice for me as a car and motorcycle builder these days but I was inspired by sandbaggeruk and his recent Armstrong-Whitworth F.K.3 . These were started a little while back. They then got lost on my bench while I worked on whatever had my fleeting attention. So, having finished the F-16 my bench is ready to get these done. The ZM kit is much further along with the cockpit done, fuselage closed up and the majority of the wings completed as well as the engine. The Revell one has the wings started, the fuselage halves together, and the engine mostly complete.

From Retrol/Okmo it's their M12B engine.
It's a four stroke, OHV, water cooled, 1.6cc, fully functioning, scaled
down IC engine. Bore is 13mm and stroke 12mm. A neat little item.😀 And it runs GREAT !

A long absence…
Sometimes we plan to follow one path and end up having to take another… and that was the case for nearly two months.
My apologies for my absence.
During this period, I have been making progress on the engines and their respective nacelles, completing the fuselage halves and wings.
Engines and metal...
With the engines assembled, and in keeping with the rest of the build process, I encountered no difficulties whatsoever when gluing them together. The engines are supplied in two halves which, when joined, meet either along overlapping areas or in sections that remain hidden from view, ensuring clean seams with virtually no flash or excess material to remove.
The exhaust collector components, unlike those found on their American contemporaries, are mounted at the front of the engine and then feed into the long exhaust pipe.
Painting began with a coat of Mr. Surfacer 1500 Black, which provides a satin finish suitable for the result I was aiming for.

The metallic colours used were aluminium for the engines, while the collectors were also painted with an aluminium base coat followed by a light layer of Alclad Pale Burnt Metal. The final tone I am aiming for is something a little more “heat-stained”, but I will return to that subject later in the build.

Meanwhile, the two fuselage halves were completed with the remaining components, allowing them to be closed up and prepared for painting.
I cannot stress enough how precise the fit is. The transparent parts slot into place perfectly, with no gaps and no uncertainty regarding their positioning.
The transparent nose sections fit into the fuselage via positive and negative L-shaped joints, and the capillary action of Tamiya Extra Thin Cement alone is sufficient to secure them in place.

The wings were also attached and, apart from the modeller’s own lack of skill, I have nothing but praise for the precision of the fit.

With a little more care or talent, filler could probably have been avoided altogether, although that was not the case here!

After sanding the joints between the upper and lower wing halves, I reinstated some of the rivet lines along the wing leading edges using a rivet tool purchased from AliExpress.
And this is the model in its current state.
