So, while I wait for the rigging thread for the Gladiator to arrive (odds are it will arrive when I'm on holiday!), I thought I'd start something different. Never built a 1/16 kit before but this has been great so far. Have made a lot more progress in a couple of evenings than I expected to. Basically, all the main interior detail is prepared ready for primer. I'll need to order paint for the interior and camo but that can wait until after we're back from our break. I'm impressed by the detai

This is an Airco DH9 from WnW. An odd choice for me as a car and motorcycle builder these days but I was inspired by sandbaggeruk and his recent Armstrong-Whitworth F.K.3 . I picked this up on EBay for £100. More than I wanted to pay but way less than anyone else it seems has to pay these days. I decided on WnW as I doesn’t look like I will need to break the bank on extras which can often cost more than the original kit if you start adding 3D decals, 3D engines and so on. These were started a little while back. They then got lost on my bench while I worked on whatever had my fleeting attention. So, having finished the F-16 my bench is ready to get these done. The ZM kit is much further along with the cockpit done, fuselage closed up and the majority of the wings completed as well as the engine. The Revell one has the wings started, the fuselage halves together, and the engine mostly complete.

I have been widely absent for a while for different reasons, one very obviously it is summertime, with lots of swimming, mountainbiking and doing things around the house, etc. Another reason is redecorating my workspace, selling unused woodworking machines and add desparately needed display shelves to my cave. Not so obvious, but to my own mystification, the forum situation with LSM and MSW crashed with all data and seemingly many members lost and to add to that the forming of Dry Dock Modeler

Thanks for the comments. I’m glad if my work provides some inspiration. I know my style is quite unusual—partly because I still don't have access to an airbrush. But perhaps sometime in the future, I’ll have a dedicated hobby room that allows me to use one. I always aim to keep my work from being boring, though sometimes that backfires and I end up doing too much weathering. Usually, if building a scale model is fun, the model ends up looking good, too. I’m not sure if I explained that right.

A problem i had with Italeri a while back was the plastic becoming ultra brittle when subject to Spirits based washes. I couldn't prove it either way in tests but i found the wing struts on this model seemed to lose the pin ends very easily after being painted with spirit based oils ?
The pin ends are 1mm which is handy as i was able to drill the end of the struts 0.5mm, incert a hard steel pin and then fix some 1mm alloy tube over the steel pin on abouty 50% or the struts

Nice boxy thing out of the box, Gus. Detail looks good as well. I only ventured into 1/16 with the Japanese / Chinese Tankette from Takom and liked the project as well.

Hi all,
The Bentley BR.1 engine is finished.
The only modification was the addition of the twin ignition leads, not that you can see them when the engine is fitted.
Next up is the preparation for the pre-rigging stage,

I'm impressed by the detail at this scale - certainly easier on the old eyes. The plastic is very nice to work with as well. That may be a Takom thing but I don't think I've built one of their kits before. Everything goes together well and the injector pins are all in areas where they won't be seen ie under the floor so far.
